Delayed Speech & Language Development
- Developmental Milestones are the milestones from which all children passes with certain ages and with similar or different rates.
- If child is not able to develop speech & language skills as per the milestones; he/ she should be evaluated by the Speech & Language Pathologist or Speech Therapist.
- Delayed Speech Indicates delay in production and Language delay indicates error with meaning.
- Delayed Speech & Language Development may be associated with problems like Hearing Loss, Mental Illness, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, Cerebral Palsy etc.
Indicators for Delayed Speech & Language Problems
- If the child doesn’t show indication of communication using Sounds or Gestures, especially when they need your help.
- At the age of Two Years, not speaking minimum of 50 words, not following two or more words simple phrases, not uttering words spontaneously.
- If the child is unable to understand one step simple commands by the age of Two Years.
- If the child is unable to answer simple questions asked by the age of Two Years.
- At age of Three Years, not able to form longer sentences, Longer Word Phrases or Longer Instructions.
- At age of Four Years, not asking questions, struggling to learn new words.
- Art age of Five Years, Missing important words in a sentence
If any of these signs are detected in the speech language development of the child, consult Speech and Language Pathologist or Speech Therapist without any delays.
